Over the years Bollywood has become an integral part of the Indian culture and is the one thing that everyone knows about India (Jai ho!). And with Bollywood movies come innumerable songs and dances (not that I’m complaining!).
Bollywood has a big presence in Canada as well. In fact just the other day I learned that Bollywood gets 25% of revenue from North America. I always knew that movies played in select theatres here but I wanted to know what else and what more I could do.
And soon I found myself attending a Bollywood dance class at Shiamak Davar Toronto.
Shiamak Davar is a well-known Bollywood choreographer and offers dance classes all over the world starting from India to Dubai to London to here in the six.
Besides getting to dance on Bollywood music after what felt like forever, it was a great workout.
In the one hour session I attended we danced to two songs – the first song ‘Jumme ki raat’ was from the movie Kick starring Salman Khan and Jacqueline Fernandes. The second song was ‘Fevicol’ from the movie Dabbang 2 also starring Salman Khan but this time with Kareena Kapoor Khan.
The dance school offers a number of options to try out and participate in its dance classes. You can choose from doing a single class to a whole showcase. Classes are offered for beginners s well as advanced students. If you decide to end up doing the showcase you might find yourself doing something like this video:
Everyone can find something to suit their needs and everyone should find time to attend this jam-packed Bollywood hour. (I certainly will be back for more!)
