While doing some research for my next escapade I came across The Festival of India – It doesn’t get more Indian than this. Apparently, for over 40 years the Festival of India has taken place in Toronto. The festival begins with a parade down Yonge street and celebrations continue through the weekend at Center Island.
The festival is open to the public and free for everyone.
But that’s not even the best part. The biggest highlight (at least for me) is the free vegetarian feast served to all who attend.
Besides food, the festival will also feature music, dance and drama showcase, a spiritual yoga festival, a South Asian bazaar, cultural exhibits and so much more.
This festival is no small fix for the homesick desi. I can imagine the entire weekend to feel like you’re in India – except instead taking several flights of considerable hours and many many dollars, it’s only a quick $7 ferry ride away!
